Clavey River Guide Service – Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can we drive up or fly?
Actually, you can do either. You can drive right into camp, or you can fly into the closest airport (FRESNO) and we will pick you up.
Q: What is your success ratio?
Our success rate is VERY high. To put a number down or a percentage rate would not be fair because every year differs. But all in all, we are a very successful camp. Most hunters in camp will have the opportunity to harvest a nice bear. Last year we were 28 for 28 in bear captures (100%).
Q: What colors and sizes of bears do you have in your area?
olor phases for bears are predominantly chocolate brown and cinnamon and occasionally black. Adult California bears will average between 175lbs and 250lbs. We do occasionally get boars in the range 400lbs to 500lbs. We do not allow small bears, sows with cubs or cubs to be taken at anytime. Bear Season will start the 3rd weekend of September and go until 1700 Bears are harvested in California.
Q: How far from camp is the closest town or restaurant?
The nearest restaurant and town is in Buck Meadows (4o minutes away).
Q: Do you have any kind of cell phone service in the area?
We have very limited cell phone service in the area that we hunt. Verizon works the best.
Q: What items do I need?
You’ll need some comfortable hiking boots, long sleeved shirts, loose fitting jeans, gloves, personal gear, rain-gear, knife, small day pack (camera, lunch, etc), rifle, bow etc.. Bring a warm coat, camera and so on. You are responsible to get your hunting license and bear tag from the Dept. of Fish and Game. If you are from another state you can contact them in Sacramento, CA. You must have your license and tag when you arrive for your hunt.
Q: What is the weather like that time of year?
Clavey River Guide Service offering quality California black bear hunting trips and guided CA bear hunts.
